Zilverpark Car Park, Lelystad
This car park and a strip of health care facilities, the two expressed
as a single building, adjoin the new living and working premises along the park
in Zilverparkkade, a redevelopment area in the new town heart of Lelystad. The
three-storey parking facility (ground, first and second floors) for 500 cars is
wrapped in a partially open facade system of stainless steel wire-faced walls
filled with stone slates. This system gives both natural ventilation and good
protection against break-ins.
The bottom 1.2
metres are of precast concrete emblazoned with lettering
that says something about the building's contents. Natural light entering
during the day provides a subtle, vibrant play of light. In the evening the building itself radiates artificial light
aided by special fittings. In its physical manifestation and transparency, the car
park adds a positive quality to the public clearing in which its stands.
